CTBS All-Star Jam-Format
First Hour:
All-Star band plays with guest host
Includes Host invited guests
Second Hour:
Official jam begins
Performance Guidelines:
Everyone gets at least 2 songs and/or no more than 15 minutes
Participants may be called back for another round
Jam order is not solely based on sign-up order (host builds the bands)
First sign-ups and CTBS members are prioritized
Participation:
At least the first 24 names on the list will play
Often time allows for more participants
Closing Set:
Final 15–30 minutes: All-Star band with guest host
Sign-Up:
Starts about 15 minutes before the show begins
CTBS members always have priority
Be respectful and kind to everyone
This is a Blues Jam, not an Open Mic:
You will play with others
Music must be Blues-oriented
Host decides each Jam lineup:
You may or may not play with your friends or bandmates. You may ask.
Volume awareness:
Don’t overpower the mix
Do not have your guitar at 11
If you cannot hit the drums to match the music style, bring brushes
Singers lead the band:
Singers are the default band leaders
Leaders should make sure every player gets their solos. If you sing and are not comfortable with this, just ask
Solos should be no longer than 2 verses and a chorus.
No full band performances:
The purpose is to jam with new people
We have allowed a new band to play a couple of songs, but this must be discussed with the host prior.
Keep songs simple:
Use I-IV-V progressions or variations that are easily communicated to other musicians.
Avoid obscure songs unless others confirm they know it
If no one knows it, move on
Backline provided:
No personal amps, keyboards, or drums allowed
Gear rules:
Tune your instrument before playing
No pedalboards that require setup
A single pedal is acceptable
